CITY NATURE CHALLENGE
April 26 to April 29, 2024
The City Nature Challenge (CNC) is an international effort for people to find and document plants, animals and fungi in cities across the globe. It’s a Bioblitz-style competition where cities are in a friendly contest with each other to see who can make the most observations of nature. Species occurrence data collected through the City Nature Challenge helps scientists and planners to keep track of rare species and their habitat, so they can be better protected in the future.
London first participated in the City Nature Challenge in 2023, and placed 2nd in Ontario with 3797 observations! Come out and help us get even more observations this year!

The City Nature Challenge project will collect observations only between April 26 to 29, 2024 but anyone can continue posting to iNaturalist throughout the year.

The City Nature Challenge is organized by the Community Science teams at the California Academy of Sciences and the Natural History Museum of Los Angeles County. Since launching in 2016, the CNC has grown into an international event that inspires people around the world to find and document wildlife in their cities.
The Canadian Wildlife Federation runs the Canadian branch of the CNC.
City Nature Challenge: London, ON is organized by Fanshawe College and the founders of the Biodiversity Inventory at Western.
